Projects is a new primitive in Claude Code (desktop and web, beta) where a single conversation gets automatically split into parallel cloud threads. Claude manages context passing between threads and continues running after you disconnect.
Projects brings the Claude Tag architecture to Claude Code: one persistent agent per project handles memory and spins up subagents for individual tasks. The coordinator can be instructed to be proactive or run tasks on a schedule.
Projects is available now for Pro and Max users who already use cloud sessions and have not used the old Claude Projects. Users with existing Projects are being onboarded slightly later to ensure a clean migration. A waitlist is available for early access.

The team debated naming for the new coordinator-style Projects feature but chose to evolve an existing concept rather than introduce a new one, aiming for a migration that feels smooth rather than a disorienting rebrand.
Documentation was creating the impression that the new Projects and older Cowork Projects were separate features, when they are actually the same product. A quick docs update is being pushed to clarify, with the new version simply rolling out in stages starting with Claude Code.
